NVIDIA is facing a shortage of GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs, resulting in shipment delays and price increases in some regions.

Here's What We Know

A miscommunication between NVIDIA and its board manufacturing partners has reportedly caused a stock shortage of RTX 50 series GPUs. Since the announcement of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, there have been reports of possible difficulties in acquiring them at launch. It was recently reported that the extremely limited availability of the high-performance RTX 50 GPUs, especially the RTX 5090, would make them difficult to buy at the recommended retail price.

Now more and more reports are confirming that this is indeed the case, making the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and to some extent the RTX 5070 GPUs extremely scarce in the market worldwide. In some regions, such as China, prices for the RTX 5090 and 5080 have doubled to $4000 and $2000 dollars respectively. Availability is only expected to improve by Chinese New Year, but until then, there is no guarantee that customers will be able to purchase these GPUs at a non-overpriced retail price.

Prices for GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards in Europe will already be particularly high due to the insurance premium tax and considering how poor the availability of these GPUs is, price stabilisation here is not expected in the coming days either.
