Samsung has announced that its Messages app will not come pre-installed on the new Galaxy S25 devices. Instead, users will be switched to Google Messages.

Here's What We Know

The decision comes as part of a partnership with Google, which also led to the creation of Galaxy AI and the sidelining of Bixby. Samsung has explained that it is discontinuing support for its SMS app and will gradually migrate all users to Google Messages, which offers an improved messaging experience thanks to RCS functionality.

The Samsung Messages app is no longer available on the Play Store, but users who have already installed it can continue to use it on their devices, except for the Galaxy S25. To switch to Google Messages or another sms app, you'll need to use the "Default Apps" menu in settings. This change may be frustrating for some users, but those who are not comfortable with the Google app can find other SMS apps in the Play Store and Galaxy Store.
