North Korea transferred 122mm multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Russia, disguising them as civilian trucks to avoid detection.

Here's What We Know

A video posted on social media shows a suspicious truck in the Kursk region of Russia. This equipment resembles the military equipment that was demonstrated at North Korea's 75th anniversary in September 2023, but with some differences, including the inscriptions. Both versions have 12 launchers that are activated when the roof of the truck is opened.

The camouflage of military equipment has long been a strategy to avoid detection, which is actively used by both sides of the conflict. By providing Russia with this equipment, North Korea reportedly ensured that it could be moved quickly and hidden after use. This allows for more time before the enemy can identify and neutralise the weapon.

The use of North Korean MLRS in Russia is part of broader cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang. In 2024, they signed a mutual defence treaty that provides for immediate military assistance in the event of an attack on one of the parties.

In addition to supplying weapons, North Korea has reportedly sent at least 10,000 troops to support Russian forces in the current conflict.
