Google will require confirmation before calling emergency services on Pixel Watch

Google is introducing new changes to the Emergency SOS mode on its Pixel Watch smartwatch to minimise accidental emergency calls.

Here's What We Know

Previously, if the user pressed the side button of the watch five times, the system would automatically call the police or ambulance if the call was not cancelled. This often led to accidental calls.

According to the new updates, after five presses on the clock button, the user must hold the screen for three seconds to confirm the emergency. If this is not done in 20 seconds, the process will have to start again.

This update aims to reduce the number of accidental calls that occur when the clock buttons are not pressed carefully, which is especially important in emergency situations where every second counts.

Google has shared that the new confirmation method will be rolled out in new Pixel Watch updates over the next few weeks. By default, the "press for three seconds" feature will become standard for all users.

If someone doesn't like this method, they can revert to the old auto-call feature by changing the settings. To do this, go to Settings, Security and Emergency Services, Emergency SOS and select the desired option.

The feature update is already gradually rolling out to Pixel Watch, and users will start to notice the changes in the next few weeks. This change will be useful for those who wear their watches frequently and have access to emergency functions, as it gives them more control over the situation in critical conditions.
