The BMW iX5 will appear in 2026 in all-electric and hydrogen versions: what is known?
BMW plans to introduce the iX5 model in 2026. The SUV will be available in both all-electric version (BEV) and c hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system developed together with Toyota.
Here's What We Know
According to Autocar, the iX5 2026 will be built on the updated Neue Klasse platform, which supports electric, hydrogen powertrains as well as internal combustion engine vehicles. The electric version is expected to get an 800-volt architecture, sixth-generation electric drive components and a new generation of battery pack.
Alongside the pure-electric and hydrogen iX5 will come a new, fifth-generation X5. The next X5 will feature upgraded petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Both models will feature design cues from the Neue Klasse concepts, including a new front body panel with X-shaped headlights.

The X5 and iX5 will be produced at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, USA, which is currently undergoing modernisation.
Camouflaged prototypes being tested in Europe show that the new X5 will retain the familiar silhouette of its predecessor. However, its length is expected to exceed five metres for the first time due to the longer wheelbase needed to accommodate the iX5's battery pack. This increase in size will put the iX5 in line with the iX model, which will be refreshed in the first quarter of this year and will remain in production until 2028.
