After the presentation of gameplay at Xbox Developer Direct, Doom: The Dark Ages quickly became one of the most anticipated games of 2025. The transition from the nimble Doom Slayer character to a bigger, more imposing, demon-slaying character is incredibly appealing. And the opportunity to ride an Atlantic mech or even ride a dragon adds even more excitement.

Here's What We Know

The inspiration for this heavier version of the Killer was Frank Miller's Batman comics, as Creative Director Hugo Martin revealed during a Q&A session at True Achievements. He also confirmed that the leaked DOOM Year Zero codename was a tribute to Batman: Year One.

Martin recalled that his favourite comic book, which he believed many people admired, was The Dark Knight by Frank Miller. The comic depicted Batman as a massive, powerful figure that looked like a tank. He explained that Batman's powerful arsenal and imposing appearance was something he wanted to emulate for The Killing, creating a version that was stronger and more powerful.

He also noted that id Software had reached the limit of mobility with DOOM Eternal. While the game and its DLC were achievements in their own right, he felt that the new version of the Slayer was a fresh variation on the power fantasy. He added that the new Slayer was heavy and powerful, with every action felt forceful.

Where To Play

Doom: The Dark Ages will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
