Sweden will provide the Armed Forces of Moldova with military assistance - a batch of AT4 anti-tank grenade launchers. This was announced by Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson.

Here's What We Know

The total value of the batch is $1.17 million. Johnson noted that Moldova is the target of constant Russian information campaigns, and it is important for Europe to help the country strengthen its security.

Sweden has been increasing its cooperation with Eastern European countries, including Moldova, as part of its containment policy aimed at limiting Russia's influence and capabilities. The head of the defence ministry also recalled that in 2023, Sweden and Moldova signed a protocol of intent to deepen cooperation in the field of security and defence.

In December, the EU announced the transfer of drone interception equipment to Moldova, but the specific characteristics of this assistance remain unknown. In August 2024, Germany handed over Ukrainian-made FurSeal 485 boats and 38 Dacia Duster vehicles to the Moldovan border police.

The Moldovan National Army is also waiting to receive 20 HMMWVs from the United States.

The AT4 anti-tank grenade launcher is one of the most widely used in the world. It is manufactured by SAAB and has several modifications that allow it to effectively hit armoured vehicles and fortifications. The grenade launcher is based on a 1020 mm long launch tube made of aluminium and fibreglass. The grenade has an initial velocity of 290 m/s and a maximum range of 2,100 m.
