Gemini can now be used directly from the Android lock screen
Google continues to improve its Gemini smart assistant, which is gradually replacing Google Assistant. The new update adds support for Extensions right on the lock screen, allowing you to perform more tasks without unlocking your smartphone.
Here's What We Know
Extensions help Gemini receive personalised information from Google services such as Flights, Maps, and Gmail, as well as third-party applications. Thanks to this, users can quickly get answers to queries without wasting time searching manually. For example, you can find out the opening hours of a store, find the nearest restaurant, or view booking details.
How to enable Extensions on the lock screen
- Open the Gemini settings.
- Go to the "Gemini on the lock screen" section.
- Enable the option "Use Gemini without unlocking".
After that, you can activate Gemini with the voice command "Hey Google" or by long-pressing the power button (for Pixel users). Google notes that most requests will work without unlocking, but to access personal data, such as calendar events or Gmail content, the system will ask for verification of identity.
Unlike other features, such as Gems or voice chat, which are only available in the $20/month Gemini Advanced subscription, the ability to use Extensions on the lock screen is open to all Gemini users.
Google has officially released Gemini 2.0 Flash from test mode.
