Universal Pictures has announced the development of a film based on the popular video game Just Cause. The script will be written by Aaron Rabin, known for his work on the Jack Ryan series and Nobody's Business 2. The project is directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, who recently completed work on The Wrecking Crew for Amazon MGM.

Here's What We Know

The film will be produced by Kelly McCormick and David Leitch through their 87North company, known for films such as Nobody and High Speed Train. Also joining the production team will be Story Kitchen, known for its work on video game adaptations including Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog.

The first Just Cause game, released in 2006, tells the story of the adventures of agent Rico Rodriguez, who works for a fictional American intelligence agency and is engaged in the overthrow of dictatorships. The game is known for its open world, dynamic gameplay and humour. The title "Just Cause" refers to the real-life US military operation in Panama, codenamed "Operation Just Cause".

The details of the film's plot are currently being kept under wraps, and information about the cast and release date has not yet been disclosed.
