The electric Kia EV5 will be sold in Canada, but not in the US

For those who have been waiting for the electric Kia EV5 in the US, there is some bad news. Kia Canada has officially confirmed that in all of North America, the model will only be sold in Canada.
Here's What We Know
The Kia EV5 crossover was introduced back in the summer of 2023 and launched in China first. Its design resembles its big brother, the Kia EV9, but technically the model is based on the E-GMP platform with a 400-volt architecture (as opposed to the EV9's 800-volt architecture).
The battery versions that will be available in Canada are:
- 60.3 kWh in the standard version
- 81.4 kWh in the Long Range version
- Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions
The Canadian EV5 will also feature Tesla's NACS development charging port. This means fast charging capability at Tesla Supercharger stations.
The official public unveiling is scheduled for the Toronto Auto Show from 14 to 23 February 2025, but the first deliveries of customer cars aren't expected until 2026.
Why won't the Kia EV5 make an appearance in the US? There's no official explanation yet.
