Call of Duty veteran Michael Condrey fired from 2K after lukewarm reception to free-to-play shooter Project Ethos
Michael Condrey, co-founder of Sledgehammer Games and one of the creators of the Call of Duty series, has been fired from his position as head of 2K Games' 31st Union studio. This happened after their debut project, the free-to-play shooter Project Ethos, received a lukewarm reception after its announcement at the end of last year.
Here's What We Know
In 2019, Condrey became the head of the newly created 31st Union studio under the auspices of 2K Games. In October 2024, their first project was presented - Project Ethos, a free-to-play roguelike in the hero shooter genre with a bright visual style similar to Overwatch. However, the game did not generate much interest among players, which led to internal changes in the studio.
Project Ethos faced a "difficult and unstable development process" under Condrey's leadership. After the game's poor reception, it was decided to dismiss him as the head of the studio.
In a press statement, 2K confirmed that Condrey is "moving into a new role focused on advising on the future of Project Ethos". The company also emphasised its commitment to the game's development and support of the 31st Union team.
