OpenAI co-founder John Shulman leaves Anthropic after almost a year
OpenAI co-founder John Shulman is leaving Anthropic less than a year after joining the company. This information was confirmed by the company itself after publications on The Information, Reuters, and other media.
Here's What We Know
"We are saddened by John's departure, but we fully support his decision to pursue new opportunities and wish him all the best," Jared Kaplan, Anthropic's chief scientific officer, said in a statement shared with Engadget.
Shulman left OpenAI last August along with Peter Deng, the company's former vice president of consumer product development. Shulman is considered one of the main developers of ChatGPT.

After leaving OpenAI, Shulman joined Anthropic to focus on artificial intelligence security, specifically on building secure machine learning models. He also wanted to get back to hands-on technical work, which was the main reason for his move.
However, as of today, John Shulman has not provided any official comments on the reasons for his departure from Anthropic, and it is not known what his plans are for the future. At the same time, his profile on X still states that he "recently joined" Anthropic, without giving any indication of the next steps in his career.
Shulman was one of the architects of ChatGPT, which made his name known in tech circles. Now, after a fairly short stay at Anthropic, he is likely to find new opportunities for further development in the field of artificial intelligence.
