Apple's iPad continues to dominate the tablet market

Apple continues to dominate the tablet market, holding 42.3% of the global market share in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a new report by Canalys.

Here's What We Know

The company shipped about 16.9 million iPads, up 2.1 million from 14.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Apple's closest competitor in the market was Samsung, which shipped 7 million tablets, accounting for 17.8% of the market. Lenovo, Huawei, and Xiaomi took 3rd, 4th, and 5th place, respectively.

In 2024, Apple shipped about 57 million iPads, accounting for 38.6% of the market. This is more than twice as much as Samsung, which shipped only 27.8 million tablets.

In 2024, Apple updated its line of high-end iPad Pro tablets with the M4 chip, as well as updated the iPad mini, added the A17 Pro chip and the M2 chip to the iPad Air.

In 2025, the company plans to update the budget iPad and iPad Air.

Stocks of iPad Air and MacBook Air in Apple stores are rapidly decreasing, indicating that new models will be launched soon.

The new MacBook Air is expected to feature a powerful M4 chip, which will provide significantly better performance than its predecessors.

As for the iPad Air, according to Gurman, there is a possibility that the new model will be equipped with the M4 chip, although some sources indicate that Apple may opt for the M3, which is inferior to the M4 in terms of performance, but is also very powerful for a tablet.
