Not only Xiaomi: Honor also integrates DeepSeek-R1 for its AI assistant YOYO

Artificial intelligence has been in the spotlight for almost two years now, and the trend continues to gain momentum. OpenAI started the wave, but other tech giants such as Google, Meta, and Claude have joined the bandwagon.
Here's What We Know
DeepSeek-R1 is available under the MIT licence, which allows it to be used for commercial and academic purposes without restrictions. Huawei has already implemented the novelty, and now Honor is also joining this initiative.
However, OpenAI has evidence that Chinese startup DeepSeek used its models to train its competitor
The company has officially announced that the updated version of its built-in assistant YOYO, which is currently available only in China, will be powered by DeepSeek-R1. According to Honor, YOYO already has more than 130 million monthly active users. Thanks to the integration with DeepSeek-R1, the company promises significant performance improvements.

The main improvements will be in natural language processing, in particular, YOYO will become more sensitive to context and respond faster to queries. Logical reasoning and deeper contextual understanding are also important areas where DeepSeek-R1 will help improve performance.
The update has been available since 8 February for Honor smartphone users in China running MagicOS 8.0 or later. To activate the updated version, you need to update the YOYO app to version 80.0.1.503 or higher. For now, this update is only available in China, and it is unknown whether it will be available in international markets.
Taiwan recently banned the use of Chinese artificial intelligence DeepSeek due to security risks.
