Tesla has unveiled the updated Model Y Juniper, which has received significant efficiency improvements. The company claims that the new tyres, designed specifically for this model, have the lowest rolling resistance of any ever used on a Tesla vehicle.

Here's What We Know

These tyres not only reduce energy consumption, but also improve handling and reduce road noise. Together with improved cabin sound insulation, including acoustic glass, an advanced ventilation system and better interior trim, the new Model Y offers a significantly quieter and more comfortable driving experience.

The design of the Model Y Juniper has also undergone changes, with improved body aerodynamics, new brake calipers and a reduced drag coefficient. This resulted in a 10% increase in efficiency compared to its predecessor.

The official range of the updated Model Y AWD version is now 327 miles (527 km) on the EPA cycle, which is 5% more than the previous model. If the rear-wheel drive version of the Model Y Long Range receives a similar efficiency improvement, its range could reach a record 353 miles (568 km).

However, the Model Y Juniper retains the 400-volt architecture of the previous version. This means that it will not be able to charge at full capacity from the latest V4 Superchargers, which support up to 500 kW. Tesla explained that they did not increase the battery capacity or speed up charging to keep the model affordable.

Consequently, the Cybertruck remains the only production Tesla vehicle with a modern 800-volt system.
