Media: OpenAI is preparing to produce its own chip for artificial intelligence

As the demand for various AI models grows, so does the demand for chips to create and use them.

The largest player in the AI market is OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. The American company is completely dependent on chips from partner manufacturers, but, as it became known, this situation may soon change.

Here's What We Know

Reuters journalists reported that OpenAI is preparing to launch production of its own AI chip based on 3nm architecture.

It is reported that OpenAI will only develop the chip, and its production is likely to be handled by the Taiwanese company of American origin TSMC. Such a decision will help OpenAI to be less dependent on Nvidia.

The development of the chip is headed by former Google TPU engineer Richard Ho. He has a team of forty people at his disposal and, according to Reuters' sources, they should complete the development of the chip within three months. A limited batch will be made first, after which production will be gradually scaled up.

OpenAI and TSMC have not commented on this information.
