Rebellion Developments told about the features of Atomfall development
Although the release of the post-apocalyptic survival action game Atomfall is still more than a month away, developer Rebellion has started to reveal more about the game. In a recent interview, lead designer Ben Fisher explained that the team spent a lot of time refining their ideas before the game began to take shape.
Here's What We Know
Fisher shared that one of the main challenges was figuring out how to integrate exploratory gameplay with the many iterations that took place during the prototyping phase. He described the process as experimental in many ways, and the team had to develop the game in layers, gradually evolving it over time. He admitted that the process was stressful because, while it was easy to make plans on paper, the real challenge was to see how those ideas would work in actual development.
Fisher explained that combining ideas often led to unexpected interactions that required adjustments along the way. He emphasised the importance of leaving room for iteration and doing the work in a way that allows for continuous improvement.
In a previous interview, art director Ryan Green spoke about the game's exploratory focus, noting that Atomfall will not feature a traditional quest system. Instead, players will be asked to solve the story on their own, following certain lines of investigation. He compared the game to The X-Files, which is set in the Lake District during the Cold War.
Where To Play
Atomfall will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
When We Can Expect It
The game is scheduled for release on 27 March.
