Apple resumes advertising on X despite Elon Musk scandals

Apple has started advertising on the X platform again, for the first time in more than a year. The company stopped advertising in November 2023 after controversial statements by social network owner Elon Musk.

Here's What We Know

In particular, the @Apple account launched an advert promoting the privacy features of the Safari browser. The advert was also spotted on the @AppleTV account, promoting the Apple TV+ series Severance.

Back in January, there were reports that Apple was considering a return to advertising on X, and now it has been officially confirmed. However, it is not known how long this decision will last.

Apple is not the only major company that has suspended advertising on X. Similar decisions were made by Disney, Coca-Cola, Sony, IBM, Comcast, and others. Many brands later returned, but with caution.

Musk acquired Twitter in 2022 and renamed the platform to X the following year. Under his leadership, the content moderation policy has become less stringent, leading to the spread of extremist views. Last week, rapper Kanye West posted racist and sexist posts on X and then deleted his account.

Despite the change in the social network's policy, Apple CEO Tim Cook and other top executives, such as Greg Joswiak, remain active on X. And former Apple marketing director Phil Schiller left the platform to join Mastodon and Bluesky.

Recently, the European Commission completed an investigation into the social network X (formerly Twitter) and, according to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, is preparing to impose a fine of millions of euros.
