The Gravehawk anti-aircraft missile system, designed specifically for Ukraine, was officially unveiled in the UK.

Here's What We Know

A photo of the new system was published by Forces News. The system was developed in 18 months to counter drones, cruise missiles and aircraft. The development cost was £6 million.

The project was implemented by the UK Ministry of Defence's Taskforce Kindred team. Several British defence companies joined the work, but their names are not disclosed.

The Gravehawk is based on the Soviet R-73 air-to-air missile, adapted for launch from a ground launcher. These missiles are widely used by the Ukrainian Air Force and are available on the international arms market.

The launcher is housed in a standard ISO container, which ensures mobility and can be transported by truck, train or ship. The roof of the container is equipped with an optical system that uses infrared radiation to detect targets. As a result, the Gravehawk does not emit radar signals, making it difficult for the enemy to detect.

Images from the optical system are transmitted to a command module the size of a briefcase. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have already received two such systems, and 15 more are planned to be delivered over the course of the year. The cost of one Gravehawk system is approximately £1 million, with half of the cost funded by Denmark.
