Isuzu to build a new plant in the US: to produce diesel, petrol and electric trucks
Japanese carmaker Isuzu Motors has announced the construction of a new plant in the US, where it will produce trucks with internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric propulsion. The facility will appear in the state of South Carolina and will begin operations in 2027.
What is known about the plant?
- Location: Greenville County, South Carolina
- Area: 750,000 m²
- Investment: $280 million
- Creation of 700 jobs by 2028
- Planned capacity: 50,000 vehicles per year by 2030.
- Isuzu wants to expand local production of components for electric trucks as it expects demand for BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) to grow in the long term.
What will be produced?
The plant will operate on a flexible production scheme - producing electric, petrol and diesel models simultaneously, depending on demand.
Models to be produced:
- Isuzu N-series (7.5-9.3 tonnes) - electric and petrol versions
- Isuzu F-series (15 tonnes) - diesel models
This will be the first Isuzu plant to operate without conveyors and production pits. This approach will ensure flexibility and scalability of production lines. Quality checks will be carried out using automated systems to reduce scrap.
Isuzu is already producing electric trucks in the US
The South Carolina plant will be Isuzu's second production facility in the US. In September 2024, the company began producing the electric Isuzu NRR-EV in Charlotte, Michigan. This model is available with four battery versions: 60, 100, 140 and 180 kWh.
