On 27th February, Splitgate 2 alpha will be released, allowing players on PlayStation to try out the 24-player mode

1047 Games has announced plans to launch an alpha version of Splitgate 2 that will allow PlayStation players to try out a new 24-player mode. In this mode, three teams of eight players will fight against each other at a fast pace.

Here's What We Know

The announcement, made on the PlayStation Blog by lead writer Nate Dern, includes information about the studio's experience in early game development and the importance of player feedback in the creation of Splitgate 2. While Dern praised the arena mode, he stressed that the alpha version of the game will focus on multiplayer portal warfare, a mode described as a chaotic brawl. The alpha will be available from 27 February to 2 March as a limited-time event.

In Splitgate 2, players take on the role of futuristic athletes known as Aces who compete in televised death matches. The game retains the signature portal gun mechanic, which allows players to create flanking opportunities by instantly opening portals to strategic locations. Those familiar with Portal will recognise the momentum-based mechanics that affect movement and combat.

Where To Play

When it releases in 2025, Splitgate 2 will be available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
