Gemini Advanced now saves chat history
Google has made its Gemini chatbot even more user-friendly. Starting today, this chatbot will remember previous conversations to provide more useful answers.
Here's What We Know
This means that users no longer have to start from scratch or search for previous conversations. They will be able to continue projects or conversations they started earlier.
According to Google, Gemini can let you know if it's referencing a previous conversation when formulating a response. If the idea of memorisation bothers users, Google provides the ability to view, delete, or change the settings for how long chat history is stored. You can also disable this feature entirely through the My Activity panel.
This step is not new for chatbots. ChatGPT, for example, can also "remember" some details about the user in certain contexts. The concept of creating chatbots with long-term memory is part of the future that many companies, including Google and OpenAI, are striving for. For example, at I/O 2024, Google presented Project Astra, which also had built-in memory, but with limitations.
The new Gemini memory feature is currently only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers in English, but will soon be available in other languages.
Gemini can be used directly from the Android lock screen. The new update adds support for Extensions right on the lock screen, allowing you to perform more tasks without unlocking your smartphone.
