Embraer starts production of the first C-390 Millennium for Austria
Brazilian company Embraer has officially started assembly of the first C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft for Austria. The ceremony took place at the Gavião Peixoto production facility in Brazil with the participation of representatives of the Austrian government.
Here's What We Know
The C-390 Millennium is a multi-role medium military transport aircraft designed for cargo and personnel transport, peacekeeping missions, medical evacuation, search and rescue operations, and disaster relief. It can also be refuelled in the air, and the KC-390 variant can function as a refueller.
The aircraft has a maximum payload of 26 tonnes and a speed of 470 knots. Thanks to its powerful engines, spacious cargo compartment and reinforced landing gear, the C-390 can operate on unpaved runways in difficult conditions. Since 2019, when the C-390 entered service with the Brazilian Air Force, it has demonstrated high performance.
Austria has joined the ranks of countries purchasing the C-390, including Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and South Korea. In 2024, Sweden, Slovakia and an unnamed customer also opted for the aircraft.
