Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has shared new details about the future of Apple's professional monitor and large iMac.

Here's What We Know

Pro Display XDR 2

Apple released the 32-inch Pro Display XDR in 2019 with 6K resolution, up to 1600 nits of brightness, and Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C ports. Its price starts at $4,999, and the stand costs another $999.

Gurman notes that the updated model is not a priority for Apple as it is a niche product. In 2022, it was reported that the company was working on a version with an Apple Silicon chip, but it is unclear whether the plan is still relevant.

Users expect upgrades, including a camera, built-in speakers, and a refresh rate above 60Hz.

Big iMac

Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac back in 2021. The only option in the lineup is the 24-inch iMac.

Rumours suggest that the company may launch a 32-inch iMac with a mini-LED display in 2025. This will allow for higher brightness and contrast.

Unlike the current Studio Display, which uses a 5K LED panel, the new mini-LED variant will offer significantly better brightness, contrast and colour accuracy. According to Young, the display will use mini-LED technology from Epistar, and the panels will be supplied by LG Display.

Apple has not yet made any official announcements, but according to recent forecasts, a larger iMac may still appear in the coming years. Mini-LED is already used in the MacBook Pro.
