Phil Spencer has confirmed that the mysterious game Everwild, created by the authors of Sea of Thieves, is still in development

Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox, shared new details about Rare's Everwild game, which was announced almost six years ago.

Here's What We Know

Rare, the studio known for Sea of Thieves, first announced the new IP in November 2019 and released another trailer in July 2020, but since then, there has been little news about the game.

On the Xbox Era podcast, Spencer said that the studio is making progress on the game and called it one of his most anticipated projects that Xbox is currently working on.

It's great to see the team at Everwild and the progress they're making

He also said that the management was able to give the team time to do what they were doing, so no one will be pushing the developers to finish the game faster.

In 2021, VGC sources familiar with Everwild's development claimed that the game's design had been "restarted from scratch," meaning that it would be several years away from release.

At the time, VGC sources claimed that the Everwild development team was "optimistically" targeting a 2024 release for the game, but it's now 2025 and it's hard to imagine when it will be ready.
