Apple has officially abandoned 64 GB of internal storage for iPhones, starting with the iPhone 16e. This means that all new iPhones now have a minimum of 128 GB of storage.

Here's What We Know

Previously, the basic iPhone model was often criticised for not having enough storage, as 64 GB was quickly filled with apps, photos, videos, and iOS updates. Now, even the budget iPhone 16e has more storage space.

However, the increase in memory has affected the price. While Apple used to offer more affordable iPhone models in the price range of up to $500, the iPhone 16e will now cost from $599. At the same time, users will get not only more storage but also more advanced features. In addition to the basic 128 GB version, Apple will offer 256 GB and 512 GB versions.

Thus, the iPhone 16e is another step in Apple's move away from low storage capacities in its devices. The last gadget of the company that still offers 64 GB is the iPad. However, with the release of the new iPad 11 later this year, Apple is rumoured to eliminate this configuration from its lineup as well.

Apple has officially discontinued the production of the last iPhones with the Lightning connector. With the release of the iPhone 16e, the company discontinued the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE, which were the last models with this port.

With the release of the iPhone 16e, Apple no longer produces older iPhone SE models that had LCD displays. This means that now all new iPhones Apple sells are equipped with OLED displays.

The official launch of the iPhone 16e is scheduled for 28 February.
