Riot Games continues to develop the League of Legends MMO, but fans should not expect a release in the near future. The co-founder of the studio hinted that the game is still a long way off.

Here's What We Know

Five years ago, Riot Games announced plans to enter almost all major genres of the gaming industry, including MMOs. Since then, some projects, such as the fighting game 2XKO, have received titles and details, but there has been little news about MMOs.

Riot Games co-founder Mark Merrill spoke about the status of the project, but the news is not very encouraging. There is a chance that man will set foot on Mars before he plays this MMO.

In 2020, the development of the MMO was announced, but later Merrill said that the project faced difficulties and was "rebooted". The development was refocused to make the game unique enough to be different from other modern MMOs.

Nevertheless, Merrill assured that the MMO remains "the project I personally devote the most time to" and he is committed to helping it reach the market.

When asked about the game's release date, Merrill joked: "I hope the game comes out before we go to Mars." This comment, although joking, indicates that the MMO release will not be soon.

So, what will come first: a manned flight to Mars or a League of Legends MMO?
