Apple confirms: iPhone 16e will be manufactured in India
Apple has officially confirmed that the iPhone 16e, like the entire iPhone 16 line, will be manufactured in India. This decision is part of the company's strategy to expand production in other countries and reduce dependence on China.
Here's What We Know
In a comment to the Economic Times, Apple said: "All iPhone 16 models, including the iPhone 16e, are assembled in India for Indian consumers and export to select countries." This confirms the company's intention to expand its production capabilities in the region.
According to Nikkei Asia, the share of iPhones made in India will increase from 15% in 2024 to 25% in 2027. The iPhone 16e is expected to be assembled on the same production lines as the iPhone 14, which will reduce costs and optimise processes.
The flagship iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are the first premium models to be launched in India. This demonstrates Apple's growing confidence in local manufacturing partners and their ability to deliver high quality.
In the six months to September 2024, iPhone exports from India reached $6 billion, up 33% year-on-year. Analysts predict further growth in this figure due to increased production.
In addition to the iPhone, Apple plans to start manufacturing AirPods in India this year. This is another step in the expansion of the company's production presence in the country, which will reduce logistics costs.
