The film about Clayface got a director: James Watkins, who worked on the Black Mirror series
DC Studios has finally found a director for the Clayface film - James Watkins, known for his work on the Netflix series Black Mirror, has been chosen. The script for the project was written by Mike Flanagan, who mainly specialises in horror, THR reports.

James Watkins was approved as a director after a final presentation to James Gunn, co-chairman of DC Studios. Now the official contract will be signed. The film about one of Batman's villains, Clayface, who first appeared in comics in 1940, will tell the story of an actor who uses a substance to change his appearance but becomes living clay.
The project's budget is just $40 million, and filming is due to start later this year.
The film will be released on 11 September 2026. The project will be produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, and DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran. At the moment, there are no official announcements regarding the cast.
James Watkins is also known for his work on the films Lake of Eden, Don't Speak to Evil, and The Woman in Black.
