Kia and Samsung agree to integrate SmartThings Pro into Kia PBVs
Kia and Samsung Electronics have signed a memorandum of cooperation to integrate smart IoT solutions into Kia's PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicles) transport platforms. This will enable business users to automate business management directly through the vehicle.
Here's What We Know
Users will be able to control connected Samsung ecosystem devices without complex installations, on a Plug Play basis. This will help entrepreneurs automate business processes based on artificial intelligence and remote control.

SmartThings Pro integration will enable:
- Automatically adjust vehicle and business processes based on the route entered.
- Manage technology in the business directly from the vehicle via an in-vehicle multimedia system (IVI) or tablet.
- Receive real-time alerts for malfunctions or suspicious activity.
How it will work
Example for a bakery owner:
- "Purchasing Ingredients" mode - when you enter the address of a wholesale market, the vehicle will automatically activate the refrigeration system to keep food fresh.
- "Arriving at Store" mode - when you enter a route to the bakery, the vehicle activates the air conditioning, lights and electrical appliances to prepare for opening.
- "Store Closing" mode - when finished, switches off appliances, activates energy saving and safety measures.
A "Drone Mode" is also possible for hotels, allowing remote check-in of guests, opening doors and adjusting climate control via IVI.
Kia and Samsung will start with pilot programmes for small businesses, before expanding functionality and developing customised IoT solutions for different industries. Looking ahead, a global launch of IoT solutions for B2B customers and expansion of SmartThings Pro features are on the horizon.
