Apple releases new beta firmware for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4

Apple has updated the beta firmware for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 headphones with version 7E5080a. This is the second beta release available to developers only. The previous version, which appeared in January, was 7E5067b.

Here's What's New About It

Apple does not disclose details about changes or improvements in the new firmware version. However, the update may contain bug fixes, connection optimisation, sound quality improvements, or new features that the company is testing before the official release.

Currently, users who are not part of the beta testing programme remain on stable firmware versions - 7B21 for AirPods Pro 2 and 7B20 for AirPods 4. An update for all users may be available later, after the testing is complete.

How to update the firmware

The firmware updates automatically when the earbuds are near an iPhone, iPad, or Mac connected to Wi-Fi and are charging. The update process can take up to 30 minutes.

To check the current firmware version:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Scroll to "Bluetooth".
  • Find your AirPods in the list of devices and press the "i" (information) button.

The update is expected to be officially released in the coming weeks.

Recently, ColorWare introduced Retro AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 in the style of classic Macs. The headphones are available in two colours: Light Mode (matte cream) and Dark Mode (matte black). Both variants received colour accents reminiscent of the classic Apple rainbow logo.
