The relaunch of Twisted Metal, originally developed by Firesprite, was cancelled a few months before the Twisted Metal series went live. The game was conceived as a third-person vehicle action game, but recent revelations have shown that it was designed as a battle royale game, combining third-person shooter mechanics with vehicle combat.

Here's What We Know

The images found in the portfolio of the former Firesprite UI programmer show a gameplay that is very similar to popular games like Fortnite, where players strive to be the last one standing. The game, called "Project Copper", featured both vehicular and ground battles, although the design looked fairly standard and would hardly have broken new ground in the battle royale genre.

The cancellation of the game, along with the dismissal of 900 employees, was a significant loss for Firesprite, which had been developing the game for some time. Despite the disappointing news, fans of the Twisted Metal franchise continue to speculate about its future, especially in light of the ongoing series. The question remains whether the battle royale format would be successful for such an iconic brand.
