Volkswagen has unveiled a new crossover that resembles a smaller version of the Tiguan
Volkswagen has unveiled the new Tera subcompact crossover, which will be an affordable alternative in the company's model range for Brazil and Argentina.
Here's What We Know
Externally, the Tera looks like a smaller version of the Tiguan - an understated design in the traditional VW style. Originality adds a small image under the rear wiper: the glass depicts silhouettes of Beetle, Gol and Tera itself. Older models will get two-tone wheels and black roof, but there are no LED panels as in global VW models.
In terms of dimensions, the Tera sits below the T-Cross and Taigo/Nivus, although all three models will be sold in Brazil. Length of the new crossover is about 3988 mm.
The interior has been made as familiar as possible: physical buttons of climate control instead of touch buttons, ordinary keys on the steering wheel and even a classic handbrake. This is a rarity for modern Volkswagen, which has recently switched to touch controls and compact switches.
Under the bonnet is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo engine paired to an automatic transmission. Base versions are likely to get a "mechanics". The platform is a simplified version of MQB A0, the drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.
The Tera will be produced in Brazil, and sales will start later this year. Main competitors: Fiat Pulse, Citroën Basalt and Renault Kardian.
