Canadian authorities have decided to terminate a $100 million contract with Starlink, a company owned by Ilon Musk, in response to economic measures imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Here's What We Know

Ontario's premier, Doug Ford, said Canada will not co-operate with companies that support economic attacks on the country. In addition, U.S. companies are banned from bidding on Ontario government procurement, which is worth about $30 billion annually.

Canada's former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland has proposed a 100 per cent tariff on Tesla cars to hit key US economic interests. She also called on other countries to join Canada in retaliating.

These actions are accompanied by growing discontent among Canadians against Musk. More than 230,000 people have signed a petition in favour of stripping him of his Canadian citizenship. In response, Musk, in turn, sparked even more outrage by calling Canada "not a real country." These developments come amid a drop in Tesla sales in Europe, California and Australia, as well as an increase in vandalism against the company.
