"Don't count on a sequel": Neil Druckmann on The Last of Us Part 3

The director of The Last of Us series Neil Druckmann said that the continuation of the cult franchise may not happen. In an interview with Variety, he noted that the third part is not currently in development, and this may be the end of the story.

Here's What We Know

In the interview, Druckmann answered the question about the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3:
"I've been waiting for this question," he said with a sigh. "I guess the only thing I can say is that you shouldn't count on a sequel. This could be it."

This statement came as a surprise to fans who were hoping for a new instalment after the success of the previous games in the series.

Naughty Dog is currently working on the sci-fi project Intergalactic, which was announced at The Game Awards last December.

Although there are no plans for a new game, fans will be able to enjoy the second season of The Last of Us, which will be released on 13 April on Max. According to Druckmann, he is not yet sure how many seasons it will take to complete the story of the second game, but HBO representatives have hinted that four seasons are planned in total.

Despite Druckmann's pessimistic statements, he has previously spoken about the concept for the third part, which could become a "standalone story" and at the same time connect all three games. However, the studio is not ready to confirm the development at the moment.

Fans can only wait and hope that Naughty Dog will eventually return to The Last of Us universe.
