The second season of The Last of Us will start on 13 April 2025 on HBO and Max. Showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin talked about changes in the plot, new actors, and the duration of the series, which adapts the events of The Last of Us Part II.

Here's What We Know

Neil Druckmann noted that the second season will include significant deviations from the game's plot. Although the basic "DNA" of the story will remain unchanged, the series will offer a new perspective on the events.

"I love the changes we've made," Druckmann told Variety. "It's a different version of the same story, but the essence of it remains. I'm excited to see how audiences will react to it."

Craig Mazin also confirmed that the events of Part II will be divided into two seasons due to the volume of material.

In the second season, Bella Ramsay (Ellie) and Pedro Pascal (Joel) will be joined by Caitlin Dever as Abby, a key character from Part II. In addition, there will be new characters created specifically for the series.

The season will cover the events five years after the first season, when Joel and Ellie will face new conflicts both with each other and with the dangerous world.

In addition, the showrunners confirmed that the series will not go beyond the events of Naughty Dog games. This means that a possible continuation will depend on the third part of the game, which Naughty Dog has not yet announced and its fate is unclear .

The second season will consist of seven episodes and will end on 25 May 2025.
