Ford Focus to be phased out in November: the end of another legend

Ford continues to phase out its iconic models in Europe. After Mondeo (2022) and Fiesta (2023) it is the turn of Focus - its production will end in November 2025. This was reported by Motor1 with reference to the communications manager of Ford of Europe Finn Thomasen.

Here's What We Know

  • The last Ford Focus will roll off the assembly line of the plant in Zarlouis (Germany).
  • No successor is envisaged - Ford has decided to completely abandon conventional passenger cars.
  • New orders are still being taken, but after the production stops, only ready-made configurations from warehouses will remain on sale.

Why has Ford abandoned the Focus?

According to Ford CEO Jim Farley, the company is getting out of the "boring car business" and focusing on "iconic models". Prioritising models like the Bronco, Tremor, Raptor and Mustang. Mass-market sedans and hatchbacks, in the estimation of Blue Oval executives, are not generating the desired profits for the company.

This echoes the American strategy: the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus have long since disappeared from the US market. The only exception is the Mustang, but it's a niche sports car, not a mass-market model.

What does this mean for the market?

Along with the regular Focus, we'll lose the ST version, one of the last hot hatchbacks with a manual transmission.

Perhaps the main winners in this situation will be Volkswagen Group and Toyota. Models like the Golf, Octavia, Leon, A3 and Corolla remain in line.

RIP, Focus (1998-2025)

The Focus replaced the Escort in 1998 and was one of the best value for money hatchbacks in its class. But Ford is now focusing on SUVs and pick-up trucks, leaving the European part of the market to competitors.
