Apple plans to increase the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This was reported by the Chinese insider Ice Universe.

Here's What We Know

According to him, the new model will have a thickness of 8.725 mm, which is 0.475 mm more than its predecessor. The main reason for this is probably the installation of a larger battery. Other body parameters will remain unchanged, and the overall design will retain the features of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

There have been no previous rumours of a change in size or improved battery life, so this information is new. It is also reported that the iPhone 17 Pro will have a large rectangular camera unit with rounded corners, but the main modules will retain a triangular arrangement.

Another change may affect the case materials. According to an insider, Apple may ditch the titanium used in the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro in favour of an aluminium frame. The back panel will allegedly receive a combined design with a combination of aluminium and glass.

Interestingly, Ice Universe also claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air will have the same dimensions, except for the thickness.

Recently, insiders reported that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could get 12GB of RAM. Increasing the amount of RAM will ensure greater compatibility of the iPhone 17 Pro with future updates. It may also indicate new Apple Intelligence features that will require more memory and will be available only on these models. For comparison, in 2023, only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max had 8GB of RAM, while other models had only 6GB.
