It's official: Sony Pictures and the author of the horror film "Barbarian" will make a new film based on the Resident Evil franchise
The Resident Evil franchise is getting a new film adaptation.
Here's What We Know
Warner Bros. and Netflix fought for the rights to make the film, but the licence went to Sony Pictures.
The film will be directed by Zach Cregger, the author of the highly acclaimed horror film Barbarian, who is a long-time fan of the Resident Evil series.
I've been an avid fan of these games for decades, and the opportunity to bring this amazing game to life is a true honour.
Details on the story, which was co-written by Zach Cregger with Shay Hatten - author of Ballerina and John Wick: 3 and 4 - are not yet available, but it is known that the director wants to add more horror elements.
It also remains unclear if the film will be based on one of the existing storylines or if the audience will be offered an independent story.
Filming is scheduled to begin closer to June this year, with the premiere set for 18 September 2026.
