Blades of Fire director talks about blacksmithing mechanics and game duration in a new interview

At the end of February, Blades of Fire from MercurySteam was announced, and the release date was set for 22nd May. Since the announcement, we've been getting a lot of news about the game, including system requirements and trailers, and recently we learned how much time players will need to spend on the game.

Here's What We Know

In an interview with the PlayStation Blog, the game's director and producer Enric Álvarez revealed that the gameplay will take between 60 and 80 hours of your time, which is actually quite a lot.

Álvarez also spoke about the mechanics of blacksmithing: players will deal with seven separate weapon families and 14 stats, each of which affects the characteristics of the weapon. You will be able to choose the handle for balance, change the shape of the blade for durability or speed, and choose steel types for attributes such as lacerations or protection.

The forge interface will provide feedback on the effectiveness of each modification, guiding players towards better weapon design. Alvarez emphasised the uniqueness of this system, stating that it was developed without any previous references, allowing players to truly experience the intensity of the forge as they shape their weapons.

Players should be careful when forging, as overworking a weapon can degrade its properties. Once the weapon is completed, it is assigned a star rating, which indicates its repairability, not its quality. A higher rating means that the weapon can withstand more uses before it breaks, making durability a crucial factor in battle.

Where To Play

Blades of Fire will be available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
