Recently, representatives of Arrowhead Game Studios held a live broadcast dedicated to the anniversary of the game's release, during which they talked about some of the ideas that were never implemented.

Here's What We Know

One of these concepts was the idea of five-player squads, which was actively considered. Patrik Lasota, Head of Product Testing, explained that the initial design was aimed at five-player teams, based on the idea that having two smaller groups would create a better balance.

However, during testing, the team found that when playing with five people, one player was often left out of the game, not fully participating in the action. This imbalance, as well as the added complexity of loading team strategies, forced them to abandon the idea after several years of development.

Lasota also said that several other features were cut, including the concept of low-gravity planets that would have allowed players to jump higher and descend lower. This idea was eventually cancelled because it would have required too much work from the animators. In addition, there were plans for an alternative armour system, but it did not prove to be practical and was shelved.
