Caitlin Dever, who plays Abby in the second season of The Last of Us, knows the attitude towards the character, but wants to make her believable and satisfy the fans

Caitlin Dever, who will play Abby in the second season of The Last of Us, spoke about the challenges associated with this role. The actress admitted that she strives to make the character believable and worthy of fans' expectations, despite the toxic reaction of some of the community.
Here's What We Know
Abby is one of the most controversial characters in The Last of Us universe. Her actions in the second part of the game caused a wave of criticism, which turned into online bullying of actress Laura Bailey, who voiced the character in the game.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Caitlin noted that it is difficult for her to ignore the reaction on the Internet and spoke about her intentions for this character:
"I want to make this character believable and meet the expectations of the fans. But my main focus was on working with Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin to understand her emotional state, anger, frustration and grief."
Showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin decided to adapt Abby for the series, abandoning her overly muscular look from the game. This is because the series will focus less on physical strength and more on the dramatic aspects of the character.
"We wanted to show Abby as more physically vulnerable, but spiritually strong," explained Mazin.
The second season of The Last of Us will cover only a part of the plot of the second game, leaving room for a potential third season. A total of seven episodes are planned, and the first one will appear on 13 April.
