Mark Cerny, chief architect of PlayStation 5 Pro, shared details of upcoming updates for the console, including the integration of an advanced upscaler similar to FSR 4. This will be the next step in the development of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) scaling technology.

Here's What We Know

Cerny also confirmed that Sony and AMD are working on a joint project called Project Amethyst, which aims to implement machine learning technologies to improve graphics.

In general, FSR 4 is a more advanced upscaler that can outperform the current PSSR. "The results are impressive. It's a new level of image clarity," said Cerny.

"Our goal is to have something very similar to the FSR 4 upscaler available on PS5 Pro for gaming in 2026 as the next evolution of PSSR.

Sony is actively working to get developers to integrate PSSR into their projects. Cerny emphasised:
"We want to ensure a smooth transition to the new technology. It's an ambitious process that takes time, but the results will change the way we approach graphics in games."

Now it's interesting to see how it will be integrated and how it will affect performance in games.
