Ryozo Tsujimoto, the producer of Monster Hunter Wilds, explains the game's huge success by the fact that it is more story-oriented. In a recent interview with the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Tsujimoto emphasised that the storyline, as well as multiplayer and voice acting, were the key factors behind the game's popularity.

Here's What We Know

Recently, Capcom reported that Monster Hunter Wilds sold more than 8 million copies during the first weekend after launch. This figure exceeded the sales of Monster Hunter Rise, which sold 4 million copies in the same period, and Monster Hunter World, which reached 5 million. Thus, Wilds became the fastest-selling game in Capcom's history.

The sales figures in Japan were no less impressive: Wilds topped Famitsu's weekly physical sales chart, selling over 601 thousand copies. Given the Japanese preference for PC and PlayStation 5, it is likely that the majority of these sales came from the PlayStation 5 version.
