Cute adventure action game Rootbound from the creators of Gothic, Risen and Elex has been announced
In the summer of 2024 it was confirmed that the legendary German studio Piranha Bytes - the creator of Gothic, Risen and Elex franchises - will close down.
Its former creative director Björn Pankratz and his wife Jennifer (Jennifer and Björn Pankratz) opened Pithead Studio, which recently announced a fantasy action game Cralon.
But it turns out that on the ruins of Piranha Bytes another studio was formed - Brainlag Games, which team presented its first project called Rootbound.
Here's What We Know
Rootbound is a bright adventure action with RPG elements, the main character of which will be an anthropomorphic Sprout.
Protagonist will go on a difficult journey to save his homeland from the contagion, which, as he believes, is spread by rain. Sprout will be accompanied by an intelligent Backpack, who will not only automatically collect useful items, but also give out items needed for his companion.
The player needs to protect Backpack, because if enemies see that he is intelligent - they will attack him first. It is also necessary to be polite to the Backpack, as he has a sensitive character and can take offence.
The main feature of Rootbound is the advanced physics model: players will be able to interact with many items, move them, destroy walls and have other effects on the environment.
When We Can Expect It
Rootbound is expected to release in 2026 on PC only.
