Here's What We Know

Seoul emphasises its ability to deliver defence systems quickly and offers significant benefits to Canadian industry, including the establishment of maintenance centres.

Separately, South Korea has declared its readiness to provide Canada with full access to onboard technologies, which is a significant advantage over US manufacturers.

Among the key proposals is the KSS-III submarine from Hanwha Ocean, which can meet all the requirements of the Canadian fleet. According to Hanwha Ocean's Vice President, retired Admiral Steve Chon, the first delivery could take place within six years of the contract signing. The company made a similar offer to Poland in 2023.

South Korea's defence industry has strengthened significantly after the country faced rising prices and unreasonable demands for US arms. Jeong noted that these factors forced the country to develop its own defence technologies.

According to the publication, negotiations with Canadian companies on potential cooperation are already underway.
