Nissan has announced a management reshuffle, with CEO Makoto Uchida leaving the company and Ivan Espinosa, the current director of planning, taking his place. The change will take place on 1 April 2025.

Here's What We Know

Uchida took over Nissan in 2019 after the Carlos Ghosn scandal and led the company through the crisis. He was able to stabilise the business in 2022-2023, but 2024 was a bad year:

  • Sales fell, financial results fell short of the board's expectations
  • Nissan cut production and staff
  • A potential alliance with Honda fell through

Nissan Chairman Yasushi Kimura said the company needs a new team to get back on a growth path.

Nissan also revamped its executive committee, making its second wave of personnel changes in recent months. The company is looking to emerge from the crisis, but it remains to be seen whether this bet on a radical leadership renewal will pay off.
