It has been repeatedly reported in the media that Final Fantasy XVI sales were extremely low and disappointed publisher Square Enix.

Today, official information has appeared, which confirms that the highly praised game is indeed not in demand.

Here's What We Know

Square Enix published a financial report, which says that sales of Final Fantasy XVI reached 3.5 million copies. The mentioned number looks good, but it should be taken into account that 3 million copies were sold, a week after the release, which took place in June 2023. Consequently, almost two years sold only 500 thousand copies, which is a very low figure.

The game remained a PlayStation 5 exclusive until September 2024, which largely affected not only the sales results, but also the business strategy of Square Enix, which precisely because of the Final Fantasy XVI debacle, refused to release exclusives.
