Bloomberg: Apple will add simultaneous speech translation capability to AirPods headphones
Authoritative insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has shared some interesting news that will surely delight AirPods users.
Here's What We Know
Mark Gurman reported that Apple is actively working on the implementation of the unannounced synchronised speech translation option, which will soon appear in the current models of AirPods.
According to his data, the said option will be part of the iOS 19 update, which means that you will not need to buy new headphones to use it.
The principle of this technology is described as follows: when someone addresses the user of AirPods not in the local language, he hears the translation in the headphones. It is noteworthy that a person can enter the conversation and answer in his native language, and his iPhone automatically plays back the translation to the language in which the interlocutor originally addressed.
Similar technology is already used in some TWS headphones, such as Google's Pixel Buds, but this will be a first for Apple.
It's not yet known what languages will be supported in simultaneous translation from AirPods.
The iOS 19 update is expected to be unveiled in June at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) show, and will be released before the end of the year. As we've previously reported, it will offer a major interface overhaul for Apple's gadgets, but it won't include any significant new AI capabilities.
