According to the latest information from insider Ice Universe, Samsung is considering bringing back variable aperture technology in its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra flagship. The feature first appeared in the Galaxy S9 and S9+ models in 2018, but was dropped from subsequent series starting with the Galaxy S20.

Here's What We Know

Variable aperture allows the camera to adapt to different lighting conditions, improving the quality of photos. For example, the Galaxy S9 used two aperture values: f/1.5 for low-light shooting and f/2.4 for bright scenes.

It's reported that Samsung may implement this technology in the Galaxy S26 Ultra's main camera, but it remains to be seen whether it will be the same old approach with two aperture values or a more sophisticated system like Xiaomi's 14 Ultra, where multiple settings are available. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to be unveiled next year, and the company's plans could still change. More precise information will come closer to the device's launch.
